Learning Quests
Workshops, Weekend Getaways, Foundational Quests, Retreats, and MQI Study and
Research Program
MQI Learning Quests enable the Institute to share new research discoveries that support
individuals and organizations to grow and achieve sustainable high performance. MQI research
is guided by the increasingly difficult challenges—and opportunities—surfacing around the
globe ... the challenges driven by rapid change, uncertainty and growing complexity ... and the
opportunities offered as we usher in the Golden Age of humanity.
Learning Quests are designed to increase our understanding of the nature of ourselves, our
reality and our organizations in terms of those challenges and opportunities. Taking a
paralogical approach embracing the fullness of what it is to be human, Learning Quests provide
information and knowledge relevant to the future, and suggest new ways of viewing, thinking
and acting relative to the changes enveloping our world.
Each form of Learning Quest is briefly described below. Detailed information about specific
sessions is available by clicking on the relevant link. All sessions held at the Mountain Quest
Institute facilities include lodging and meals.
Workshops
MQI workshops provide learning experiences for professional and other knowledge workers.
Varying from two to five days in length, each workshop is an outgrowth of current Institute
research related to specific issues faced by individuals and organizations. Designed to bring
participants up to date on the latest theory and practices, the workshops mix short tutorials,
group discussions, small group problem solving and personal reflection coupled with a
personal action plan. Upon completing the workshop, participants have new ideas, reference
materials, a new network of colleagues, and an action list for follow-on learning. Workshops
are priced at $500 a day per individual (includes room and meals).
Weekend Getaways
As our world becomes more complicated many of us feel the need to escape from our daily
activities and environment and get away to relax, learn and reflect on those things that are
very important but get lost in the rush of life. The MQI Weekend Getaways encourage
individuality, participation and dialogue. Often there are no "right answers," only insights,
perspectives and growth of understanding. The Institute's labyrinth, three miles of trails, and
26,000-volume research library encourage quiet contemplation and meaningful conversation.
The Getaways are facilitated, schedules are flexible, and personal journeys encouraged.
Getaway weekends are priced at $600 per couple/ $400 for an individual (includes room and
meals).
The MQI Foundational Quests
The MQI Quests are designed to facilitate the individual's journey from information to
knowledge through consciousness to meaning. The Quest for Knowledge provides a language
of concepts that are needed to learn and work with meta-knowledge. It also addresses the
issues of learning how to learn, the validity of knowledge and various approaches to finding,
creating, sharing and applying knowledge.
The Quest for Consciousness addresses the question of what is consciousness and how does
it influence the creation of our perceived reality. Various forms of consciousness are
discusses and their implications and meaning are explored. The Quest for Meaning
encourages individuals to ask their most basic questions and pursue selected ones to
discover the meaning of both the question and potential answers. In the end, it is the
journey we value most. Pricing is dependent on number of people and length of Quest.
MQI Study and Research Program
The MQI Study and Research Program is designed to immerse leaders in a learning
environment conducive to merging their own areas of expertise with Knowledge Management
and the Intelligent Complex Adaptive System model of organizations. This three-week
program combines structured learning (20 hours a week of learning and dialogue sessions,
10 hours of collaborative research, and 10 hours of individual research) with informal
conversations with Drs. Alex and David Bennet, evening group interactions, and experiential
exercises for individuals to engage their tacit knowledge. Outcomes include the
understanding and ability to apply principles of intelligent complex adaptive systems to the
organization, a white paper adapted to specific issues applicable to the participant and their
support organization, and a collaborative research project report for potential publication.

Retreats
Retreats are both formal and informal, designed to meet the needs of executive or
community groups, project or program teams, or friends and family gathering. For specific
information regarding retreats see the Retreat Center section of this website.
More formally, retreats can be combined with sessions similar to those provided for
workshops, weekend getaways, or the MQI foundational quests, or we would be pleased to
offer Consulting Services and/or Executive Retreat Facilitation. Institute members have
extensive experience in retreat facilitation with groups, teams, or organizational leaders
designed to build teamwork, improve performance, and develop strategic and learning
pathways. Tools used include SWAT analysis, systems thinking, dialogue, brainstorming,
and nominal group technique. Built on adult learning approaches, retreats include a mixture
of individual, small-group and full-group sessions and presentations, coupled with short
lectures and specific problem-solving or opportunity-finding exercises. Significant time is
set aside for personal reflection, relaxation, and social networking. Typically deliverables are
produced that are directly related to the organization's needs. Pricing for consulting and/or
facilitation are separate from facility and meal charges.

tailored to your organizational needs.
