Professional Services

The Mountain Quest Institute is the birthplace of the Intelligent Complex Adaptive System (ICAS), a new model for creating an adaptable, high performing organization in a fast-changing, complex marketplace. Using the ICAS as a baseline, Institute professionals provide executive briefings and collaborate with corporate executives to assess their needs and evaluate and implement changes that help companies adapt and make better use of their knowledge and their knowledge workers. The Institute team is available to perform studies and provide professional services in areas such as strategic planning, knowledge management, adult learning, and systems and complexity thinking applied to problem solving and decision-making. Institute researchers can also assist with leadership and team performance issues.

For an overview of MQI capability areas, see Capabilities Statement

Workshops designed to meet specific organizational needs can be given on location. Foundational workshops such as Personal Knowledge Management, Systems and Complexity Thinking, Relationships Network Management and Grant Process are also available on location. See Current Quests and the Event Schedule for Spring/Summer on-site learning opportunities.

SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS: The Institute has a network of experts and motivational speakers who can be drawn upon for high-level speaking engagements in their areas of proven expertise. These areas included ICAS (the organization of the future), knowledge management, complexity thinking, knowing, leadership, change management, integrated product teams, relationship network management, and organizational and individual learning.

ON-SITE SERVICES

The Retreat Center, the Inn, the Restaurant and the 450 acres farm support MQI and have been developed to provide a supporting environment for high team and group performance; intense focus; research and learning; re-creation, relaxation and social relationship building; and personal reflection and growth.

Within that context, there are a variety of opportunities available to use the site. Some of these are detail below.

RESEARCH SITE: MQI sustains a 18,000 volume research library that is an affiliate of the West Virginia Public Library System. The collection is designed for integrative studies in areas such as organization, management and leadership, lifelong learning, teams, consciousness, knowledge and spirituality. By arrangement, the library and facility can be made available for research by individuals and groups. See About the Library.

OFFSITE/RETREAT FACILITATION: Institute members have extensive experience in retreat facilitation with groups, teams, or organizational leaders designed to build teamwork, improve performance, and develop strategic and learning pathways. Facilitators interview all participants prior to the offsite. The agenda is designed to meet each group's specific needs. Tools used include SWAT analysis, systems thinking, dialogue, brainstorming, and nominal group technique. Built on adult-learning approaches, retreats include a mixture of individual, small-group and full-group sessions and presentations, coupled with short lectures and specific problem-solving exercises. Significant time is set aside for personal reflection, relaxation, and social networking. Typically, deliverables are produced that are directly related to the organization's needs. For some thoughts on the facilitation process see The Leader as Facilitator (MSWord, 3 pages).
